The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, which includes 17 objectives and 169 goals, presents an ambitious vision of sustainable development and integrates its economic, social and environmental dimensions.
This new Agenda and its Goals represent an important opportunity to achieve equality between men and women and women’s autonomy. To this end it includes an independent goal for gender equality, Goal 5: “Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls”. The gender perspective is also included in the targets of the other Sustainable Development Goals.
The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development establishes objectives and targets to be implemented at the national, regional and global levels. To address structural challenges and priorities of Latin America and the Caribbean, these goals and targets should be aligned and complemented with existing commitments in the Regional Gender Agenda, which are the common regional denominator.
